The paddy fields cultivated from June to October annually are left to overgrow once the harvest season is over. A variety of birds thus inhabit this area during the rest of the year - those who hunt the aquatic creatures in the shallow waters like herons, kingfishers and black-necked cranes, and those who feed on seeds and small insects from the overgrown paddy fields like peacocks and small birds like sparrows and flocks of swifts. Eagles glide over the paddy fields in circles during afternoons at high altitudes because of the warm air current produced by the land.
