Most of the large hunting birds can be seen near the water bodies and mangroves. Many of them make their habitat inside the dense canopy of mangroves, as they mainly feed on the fish, prawns and crabs coming from the Mandovi River creek. The sea eagles glide in the air to keep themselves stable on higher altitudes to have a better look out for prey. Cranes and herons also fly at high heights as they migrate long distances during winters. Crows which are also seen in this area near the bund walls, feed on the carcasses of fish left behind by the bigger birds and fishermen. The birds mostly hunt in the daylight hours from around 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. near the sluice gates as the water flows from the khazans back to the river and many aquatic creatures get stuck in the nets fixed in that area which are set up by the local fishermen.
