Arthur Rimbaud

Updated: Jul 23, 2023

Jean Nicolas Arthur Rimbaud was a French poet known for his transgressive and surreal themes and for his influence on modern literature and arts, prefiguring surrealism.
Major creative period: 1870–1875

Stanza from the poem "Childhood" by Arthur Rimbaud based on which the space was created:

III

In the woods there is a bird;

His singing stops you, and you blush.

There is a clock that never strikes.

There is a little swamp, with a nest of pale animals.

There is a cathedral that sinks, and a lake that rises above it.

There is a little ribbon-covered cart, abandoned in the hedge

Or rolling away down the path.

There is a troupe of tiny strolling players all dressed up,

Seen on the road at the edge of the woods. .

And when you are hungry or thirsty,

There is always someone to chase you away.

Text written based on the space created:

It’s dusty and silent,

so much that one can hear the sound of their own breath as they walk.

The sand stretches all over the horizon, seemingly endless.

It makes your skin itch, but you move forward, ignoring it.

The red cloth, does it belong to the girl who was eaten by the wolf?

The roar of the engine echoes in your mind and you remember seeing

them almost flying through the air at breakneck speed.

You hear the sound of grains pouring out from a sack.

The incident when your cousin almost threw a similar shaped toy in your face,

of your relatives laughing at your stunned face comes up in the mind.

The scorpion and bugs, if they were alive, would they be venomous,

and would their sting and bite kill you?

There they are, the "rainbow-tinted circles of life."

A brownish pot that lies ahead, brings back the memories of the village.

Seeing the bird figurines, makes one wonder,

what if these are the replicas of some extinct species?

Seeing the stag-like thing, all you can think of is of

the boy who turned into a stag illegally.

The final skit:

The final part of the module was a skit played out, which inculcated the sense of the drawings, texts and spaces created.
